UK CPI holds at 3.0% in February as food inflation eases but core prices edge higher
The ONS confirmed today that CPI rose by 3.0% in the 12 months to February 2026, unchanged from January. Food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation eased to 3.3% (down from 3.6%), offering some relief on ingredient costs. However, core CPI edged up to 3.2%, and services inflation remains elevated at 4.3%. For hospitality operators, the mixed picture means food margins may improve slightly, but wage and overhead pressures persist. Alcohol prices fell 1.5% in the month as discounting kicked in, while motor fuel hit its lowest since June 2021.
